Flying the weekend of the Comox Air Show?

Flying the weekend of the Comox Air Show?
There are three important things you should know before you leave for the airport

The Comox Valley Airport is advising anyone needing to access YQQ from August 14 through August 16 to visit: www.comoxairport.com for important instructions on when to arrive for flights, how to get to the airport and how to access the terminal building.

"We have been working very closely with 19 Wing Comox and our airlines to ensure efficient access for passengers and guests going to/from the airport on the weekend of the Comox Air Show," explained Comox Valley Airport CEO Fred Bigelow. "We are asking our passengers to follow a few key steps to help ensure flights leave on time under these special circumstances."

1. When to arrive for your flight

The airport is advising those needing to access the airport on August 15 to expect delays of up to one hour between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (with peak congestion expected from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Anyone travelling to the airport during these hours should allot themselves plenty of extra time to get to the airport.

Passengers booked on flights departing on August 14, 15 and 16 may need to arrive early to check in for their flight. Air Canada and WestJet are advising passengers to check in for certain flights two hours prior to scheduled departure, while Central Mountain Air and Pacific Coastal are asking guests to arrive 1.5 hours early.

"Some commercial aircraft will be parked in a different location and passengers will require bussing to get to their plane," explained YQQ CEO Fred Bigelow. "To ensure flights depart on-schedule, airlines are asking their guests to arrive early to accommodate this extra step."

YQQ is recommending that all passengers visit www.comoxairport.com and follow the recommended arrival time posted for their particular flight. Airlines will be denying boarding to those passengers who fail to arrive in time for their flight.

2. How to get to the Airport

A special access route via Ryan Road and Military Row has been designated to help airport users avoid traffic congestion from the Comox Air Show. Directions and a map are posted at www.comoxairport.com, along with a special YQQ Airport Access Pass available for download. It is recommended all passengers, guests and airport employees print this pass and display it on their windshield. Cars that have the pass displayed will not be stopped by Traffic Control Personnel stationed at Anderton and Ryan Road, making for a smoother journey to the airport.

"We have worked with 19 Wing Comox to designate an access route to the airport terminal that will allow our passengers and guests to bypass much of the Air Show spectator traffic," explained Bigelow. "Along with allocating extra travel time in their schedules, we are strongly recommending that all passengers display the YQQ Access Pass and follow the designated route along Ryan Road to avoid traffic delays."

3. How to access the Terminal Building

Main access to the Comox Valley Airport terminal on August 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will be from Military Row. Follow the signs for YQQ Airline Passengers and the entrance off Military Row will be clearly indicated. There will be no Comox Air Show spectator access available from the Comox Valley Airport terminal.

"We are asking passengers for their patience and understanding as we work to maintain our operations under these special circumstances," concluded Bigelow.
