The Comox Valley Airport welcomes the YQQ Ambassadors back to service

Things are looking up at Comox Valley Airport these days. With the reduction in domestic travel restrictions, the return of Air Canada and the enhanced summer schedules from Pacific Coastal and WestJet, the airport is bustling with activity. Thursday, July 15th marked the long-awaited return of the YQQ Ambassadors, the Comox Valley Airport's volunteer force, after an absence of nearly sixteen months.

"On March 11th, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. By the end of that week the Ambassador program was suspended, the first of many changes implemented to mitigate risk and ensure the safety of the staff and public," said CEO Mike Atkins. "I am extremely pleased to welcome the Ambassadors back, not only for the benefit of travelers, but also as an indication of a cautious return to leisure travel."

"The YQQ Ambassador program has been in operation since before the current terminal was built, and some of our dedicated volunteers have been serving since that time. They provide information and assistance to both arriving and departing passengers, playing a vital role in the passenger experience," said Operations Manager Alex Robertson. "Although we are all still wearing masks at the terminal, the smiles are evident, as is the commitment to serving our guests."

The YQQ Ambassadors will be on site daily, sending off and meeting select flights. Please join us in welcoming them back.

Safety is the number one priority for the Comox Valley Airport. Enhanced cleaning, physical distancing and other pandemic protocols will remain in place until further notice. For more information please visit our website at www.comoxairport.com YQQ Ready.
