British Columbia Shake Out

Emergency exercise happening tomorrow at the Comox Valley Airport

The Comox Valley Airport (YQQ) is advising local residents that emergency exercises will be conducted on airport leased lands throughout the morning of October 15, 2015 while the airport participates in the Great British Columbia ShakeOut.

Community partners, including the Comox Fire Department, will be participating in these exercises that are intended to prepare airport employees to respond in the unlikely event of an emergency. Various emergency scenarios related to an earthquake, including an aviation fuel spill, may be simulated.

Throughout the morning, there is a possibility that smoke may be visible around the terminal building. Residents may also hear emergency sirens or notice emergency vehicles travelling to/from the airport.

There will be no changes to Comox Valley Airport operations as the result of these exercises. All airport activities will continue uninterrupted, though passengers may observe staff, volunteers and partners taking part in simulated scenarios inside and around the terminal building.

The Comox Valley Airport thanks members of the public for their patience and support during this important training exercise.
