Fourth Quarter Report - May 2006
Comox Valley Airport Update - May 06 Passenger Growth The Comox Valley Airport continues to experience very strong growth for the first quarter after a record 2005 year. First quarter passenger numbers are up 10% with strong growth in the Vancouver sector with both Pacific Coastal and Central Mountain Air. WestJet’s inbound load factor for May was an impressive 86%. The Mexico charters were well subscribed and next year’s offering is already in the reservation system. The Comox Valley airport ran out of vehicle parking over the Christmas high season. With the start up of Air Canada Jazz regional jet service in August, parking will be a real issue later this year. It is expected that Air Canada Jazz service will further stimulate the market and increase passenger growth for the Comox Valley Airport. ![]() Airside Improvements
NATO AWACS aircraft used the CVAC ramp for repair and crew changes during the recent military exercise Trident Fury. Capabilities of new ramp were demonstrated while assisting with military aircraft movements. Six Boeing 707 and two DC10 aircraft used the CVAC ramp in support of the exercise. Air Canada Service to start 1 August 2006
Air Canada has announced they will commence regional jet service between Comox and Calgary with one flight a day service starting 1 August. The service provides good connectivity for Air Canada passengers through Calgary. The flights are operated by Air Canada Jazz for Air Canada. Schedule and frequency improvements will be market driven.
BC Gateway Signage This is one of 14 large welcoming signs highlighting B.C.'s expanding role as Canada's gateway to the world. Minister Hagen said at the unveiling that it was most appropriate for the Comox Valley Airport as it is the welcoming gateway to north central Vancouver Island for visitors from Alberta and beyond. 44% of the passengers using the Comox Valley Airport are resident outside of British Columbia. New air service will focus on additional national and international visitors. The percentage of passengers resident outside of BC is expected to increase signifacntly in the future. |

The airside ramp expansion was completed in the Fall and has provided excellent service for
charters, couriers and corporate aircraft. The additional ramp allows CVAC to provide simultaneous
secure passenger operations with unscreened charter and corporate flights. The additional ramp
provides essential heavy lift aircraft space for future long haul traffic direct to Vancouver Island.
Air service development is underway to secure an air carrier to connect the Comox Valley to
Europe. Visiting military aircraft have taken advantage of the new CVAC ramp to facilitate their
passenger and cargo requirements.
