Large Contingency from Fort McMurray Visiting the Comox Valley for R&R
February 7, 2008Press Release
Forty nine Suncor employees
Forty nine Suncor employees, family members and friends from Fort McMurray spent three days being pampered at the Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa and exploring the Comox Valley.

How did this trip come about? Len Savoy, an executive member of the Suncor Employee Recreation Association (SERA) organized the group get-away. He said " I wanted to try something new so we decided to look across western Canada for a spa that could meet our needs. I was shown a magazine that had an article describing the top 8 spas in Canada. I reviewed some of the spas for western Canada and decided to contact the Kingfisher. My primary reasons were that it made the top 8; it was in PRIME location - especially for winter since that is when we are attending (great weather, resort style facility, not in a city centre and direct airline service); and it had good reviews on the internet. I contacted the Kingfisher and they were able to accommodate my needs. Also, in talking to Linda at the Kingfisher, she was amazingly helpful and this type of service is exactly what I was looking for."

SERA events

Most SERA events are open to employees and a guest. For each room booked on this trip, there is one Suncor employee and their guest. Some are bringing family members but the majority of the employees are actually bringing a friend.

Savoy explains that " SERA exists to provide quality recreational activities for its members in a manner that fosters the active participation of the membership in the organized activities. Members are provided with a broad cross-section of activities from which to choose. These activities are organized in a safe, economical and responsible fashion. Overall the purpose of the trip is to provide our members with a mid-winter break to a quality spa in a beautiful setting. This is our escape from the cold north!

Linda MacIntrye, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Kingfisher Resort who orchestrated all of the details for the group is thrilled to welcome the visitors from the north. "We are honoured that Suncor chose the Kingfisher for their winter spa retreat and it has been a pleasure working with Len Savoy. It has been a fun challenge to make sure that all of the pieces of the puzzle are in place for this group. Len was looking for a total event planner to look after all aspects of this retreat including transportation, spa services, meals, off site dining recommendations and recreational activities. We truly hope we have met their expectations and that SERA enjoyed their stay not only at the Kingfisher, but in the Comox Valley."
