Comox Valley Airport Gears Up for Busy Holiday Travel Season

The Comox Valley Airport (YQQ) is asking travelers to plan ahead in anticipation of the upcoming holiday travel season. December 20, 2010 to January 4, 2011 is expected to be the busiest time at YQQ with up to 1,290 passengers moving through the airport daily.

"The holidays are a wonderful and exciting time that brings thousands of inbound and outbound passengers to the airport," said CEO Shirley de Silva. "Whether visiting family, receiving visitors or departing to a special sunspot destination, we hope that all of our guests will be prepared in advance of arriving to the airport."

YQQ is gearing up for the increased traffic by assigning additional staff during peak hours and increasing the terminal hours of operation during the busiest travel days.

"If every passenger were to bring one guest with them to the airport, we could see upwards of 2,500 passengers per day moving through the terminal building," said de Silva. "We are offering all of our travelers and guests some easy steps to follow to help ensure an enjoyable experience for all."

YQQ recommends all travelers:

  1. Arrive early
  2. Plan for parking
  3. Investigate check-in options
  4. Understand baggage requirements
  5. Keep the security line moving
  6. Stay patient
Information regarding holiday terminal hours is available on the Comox Valley Airport website at:

www.comoxvalleyairport.com. The airport recommends all passengers investigate check-in options and baggage requirements with their individual airlines prior to arrival at the terminal building. Links to all airlines offered by YQQ are available on the airport's website.
