AIR TERMINAL BUILDING NAMED
24/03/04News Release
The Comox Valley Airport Commission (CVAC) would like to announce that the Terminal Name Selection Committee has presented their report, which has been endorsed by the Commission. The new building will be named after Flying Officer (F/O) Cyril Cottingham and called the "F/O C Cottingham Terminal".

Cyril grew up in the Lazo area, now part of the air base, and attended Lazo Elementary. He completed high school in Comox at the top of his class. Upon graduation in 1939 Cyril joined the RCAF and served as a meteorologist, but soon remustered to pilot. In 1942, he was sent to Britain to serve with 49 Squadron of the Royal Air Force in Bomber Command. On his 19th mission flying a Lancaster, F/O C Cottingham and his crew of six were lost over the North Sea with no survivors.

The Commission would like to thank the 92 contributors for their excellent submissions of suggested names, which met the criteria of the person being connected to the Valley, involved in aviation, and having made a significant contribution to Canada.

The official opening of the F/O C Cottingham Terminal will take place on April 16th at 1 pm. The public is cordially invited.
