The Comox Valley Airport Commission (CVAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christine Gibson to its board of directors.

Christine, who joined the CVAC board in February, is the owner of Uniglobe Travel Alliance in Courtenay and has more than 19 years of experience in the travel and tourism industry. This extensive experience will be a tremendous asset to Christine's new role with the airport and adds valuable depth to the CVAC board.

"I hope to help the airport move forward in both attracting more people to the Valley and in assisting locals in accessing the rest of the world," says Gibson. "I've always believed in giving back to my community, and since the airport plays a valuable role in any community I decided that sitting on the CVAC board would be a good use of my time."

As her comments suggest, Gibson is no stranger to community service. She served two terms as a city councillor in Port Alberni, and she sat on North Island College's board of governors from 2002 to 2009. In addition to her new tenure with the CVAC board, Gibson is currently serving her second year on the volunteer board of the North Island College Foundation.

"I've served on boards during major changes in structure and leadership, and I believe this experience would be a benefit to any board," she says. "Boards should be constantly examining and re-examining their structures, their methodologies and their long term plans, and I look forward to being a part of that process with the Comox Valley Airport.

"Really, she continues, "I'm just excited about being on the CVAC board and helping out in any way I can."

The Comox Valley Airport Commission is the governing authority for the operation of the Comox Valley Airport. The nine-member Commission is broadly representative of the Comox Valley community and is a federally incorporated, non-profit entity. It was established through letters patent in 1996.
