Comox Airport Tops the Charts in Canada!
October 13, 2005News Release
For the second year in a row the Comox Valley Airport has reigned supreme in Customer Service over other Canadian Airports - receiving a resounding 4.58 out of 5! This customer satisfaction survey conducted for the Canadian Airports Council was carried out in a number of airports including Kelowna, Regina, and Victoria.

Some of the key competencies that passengers gave high marks to were efficiency, ambience, staff courtesy, safety and security. Airport Chairman Terry Law attributes the high marks to the dedication and professionalism consistently shown by the CVAC staff, volunteers and tenants (airlines, vehicle rentals, baggage handlers, security, gift shop, and café).

Comments such as "I travel a great deal and this is one of the better facilities" and "a pleasure to fly in and out of ," are the kind of endorsements that the airport likes to hear. CVAC's Mission Statement is to provide "facilities and services which consistently meet or exceed customer expectations" and the survey provides the ongoing assessment of how well CVAC is doing in that regard. Since the new airport opened in April 2004 there have been a number of additions and improvements at the airport.

New Airport Ramp Expansion

Some of the terminal enhancements have included an acoustic make-over, the installation of artistic banners, natural history pieces, and community artwork. An information kiosk has been created, the airport volunteers have taken Super Host training, and the brochure racking area has been upgraded.

The latest air-side improvement has been the 5.5 million dollar expansion of the ramp area. The additional ramp is crucial infrastructure to accommodate the current demand as well as provide the necessary ramp space to accommodate long-haul charters which utilize large aircraft. Vancouver Island is emerging as a premier tourism destination which will attract visitors from all over the world. The Comox Valley Airport is ready to meet that demand and has initiated air service development to attract European charter flights.

To date 2005 has been a very successful year with passenger numbers up 15 percent over the same time last year. CVAC's goal of flying 200,000 passengers by 2008 will certainly be exceeded this year. These numbers affirm the necessity for fast-forwarding the planning process. CVAC has commissioned a twenty year Master Plan for the airport. An element of that plan is passenger forecasting which predicts that by the year 2015 the Comox Valley Airport will see passenger volumes in excess of 450,000 passengers annually.

The strong passenger numbers have translated into increased sales for the airport tenants and for the Comox Valley in general. Additional people have been hired at the airport to assist with the increased demand for sales and service.
