Press Release from Comox Valley Airport July 12, 2007 Sunny Days Continue Year Round at Comox Airport The warm, sunny days we are currently experiencing are mere hours away during those gray & wet west coast winter days. It's official! Sunwing Vacations has just announced direct flights to Cancun starting December 23, 2007. The flights will depart from the Comox Valley and return from Mexico on Sunday afternoons. "Increased connectivity of Vancouver Island to the world through Comox is one of the Commission's goals. It doesn't get much better than a second sun vacation spot! In six hours you will go from rain and dreariness to sun and sand. That's about the same traveling time as it would take to get to the Vancouver airport via driving and ferry. Flying direct from Comox is the equivalent of adding two extra days onto precious vacation time and far less stressful" says Airport CEO Chuck Fast. "We're so pleased that Comox is part of our expansion plans in western Canada" says Gerry Roussin, Sunwing's Director of Sales for Western Canada. The reaction we're having so far from the travel agent community and travelers has been very positive - it's going to be a great winter!" "This new service is a great addition to the Puerto Vallarta packages offered by Transat Holidays" states Fast. "The response to the Puerto Vallarta flights, which began in 2004, has been phenomenal, operating above 90 percent capacity. This kind of interest was an indicator that other tropical destinations would be well received." Travelers are encouraged to book well in advance for the peak times such as Christmas and Spring Break.
