Hot, Hot, Hot!

WestJet has just made it easier to enjoy sunshine and warmth all year round. WestJet recently announced that they will fly non-stop service from Comox to Puerto Vallarta. The flights will depart every Saturday starting November 7, 2009 and continue through to May 2010.

"This is great news for Vancouver Island residents who like to escape our west coast liquid sunshine" says Ian Heselgrave, acting CEO for Comox Airport.

Direct flights from Comox to Puerto Vallarta started in 2004. In 2007 Cancun was added as additional Mexican destination. Both of these services, offered as package tours, were very popular and ideal for people who were looking for a hassle free vacation.

"The new WestJet service has the option of airfare only, which will be appealing to people who want the flexibility of choosing their own accommodation" states Heselgrave.

"As part of our strategy, we continue to deploy our fleet effectively with the expansion of our service internationally, increase the number of non-stop routes and increase market share in Mexico and elsewhere. While we recognize the realities of the current economic downtown, we will not be deterred from following our strategic plan, driving strong results and bringing the WestJet experience to more Canadians than ever before."

Mr. Oscar Fitch, CEO of the Mexico Tourism Board commented that, "The Mexico Tourism Board welcomes and supports WestJet's initiative to increase direct flights between Canada and Mexico. The decision by WestJet to provide additional non-stop service from different Canadian gateways to our country is an indication that Mexico remains as Canada's favourite leisure destination".
