New gateway sign at the Comox Valley Airport
Minister Stan Hagen officially recognized the installation of a new gateway sign at the Comox Valley Airport today. The sign features the wording "Welcome-British Columbia, Canada - the Best Place on Earth". This is one of 14 large welcoming signs highlighting B.C.'s expanding role as Canada's gateway to the world. Minister Hagen said it was most appropriate for the Comox Valley Airport as it is the welcoming gateway to north central Vancouver Island for visitors from Alberta and beyond.

In his address he acknowledged the outstanding partnership with the community through the Comox Valley Airport Commission and the Department of National Defence. The ability of the Airport Commission to work with 19 Wing Comox to provide expanded air services has been an economic boon to the region. The sign is part of the BC Governments initiative according to Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon: "Our transportation investments help support tourism, business and communities and their resource industries."

The new signs feature the rising sun and colors consistent with the provincial flag. These large signs are being placed at major portals to the province. The Comox Valley Airport is thrilled to be chosen as one of the designated locations. "The sign will be a great welcome to visitors to the region and remind us all how the region has benefited from the community, provincial and federal government partnership" said Comox Valley Airport CEO Chuck Fast.
